Learn from survivors who connect their journeys of exploitation to the lives of women in Scripture.

REAL STORIES.  REAL FAITH.  REAL HOPE.

Born out of national research conducted by the Institute for Survivor Care, this Bible study series was created in direct response to survivors’ voices. In our 2024 study on Faith Practices, of trafficking survivors in faith-based shelters, 71% identified Bible study as the practice that most contributed to their healing. In our 2025 study, Exiting Exploitation,  survivors shared the importance of seeing others like them who have not only survived—but are living lives of hope and faith.

Offering biblical truth, powerful testimony, and reflection on God’s healing and redemptive love.

Seven-part Bible study

In 2025 we were inspired to create this powerful Bible study series, for survivors, by survivors.

“Women of the Bible …like me” is a retelling of some of the greatest stories in history: stories of women who faced struggle and hardship with courage and hope, told through the voices of survivors today. Seven amazing women joined us for this first series, picking a character that most resonated with their experiences, and telling those stories in their own words.

This series is offered at no cost to shelters on our ShelterU. online learning platform. Others can purchase the series or individual modules from EquipU.

Women of the Bible… like me is designed for use with survivors.

The series can be used in a group setting—encouraging guided discussion—or individually, allowing a survivor to watch at her own pace and reflect privately on the questions.

A facilitator’s guide is included, making it easy to lead meaningful conversations.

Mary Magdalene (Brittany)
Being put in a “quiet place” might be exactly where the Lord needs you to be for you to hear His voice in your life. Brittney, like Mary, had to quit running and just sit in the spaces where she would encounter His Word, His love, and His plan for her life.

Women of the Bible… like me: The Samaritan Woman (Janice)
Shame can become its own prison if you let it. Janice sees herself in the Samaritan Woman as someone who accepted what the world said she was and what her limitations would be. But an encounter with Jesus set them both free from living under “everything I’d ever done.”

Women of the Bible… like me: Gomer (Sheniqua)
Boundaries in life can feel like restrictions, causing us to be disobedient. Sheniqua had to learn the hard way, like Gomer, that a loving God will pursue us, and bring us to a place of acceptance that His boundaries are for our good.

Women of the Bible… like me: Woman Caught in Adultery (Jamie)
Where you’ve been and what you’ve done can feel like the “stones of judgement” are meant only to condemn you. Jaimie relates to the woman caught in adultery, not only for her past, but in how she understood that being told “go and sin no more” was not a condemnation, but an invitation.

Women of the Bible… like me: Esther (Catherine)
Sometimes God can seem silent and we’re the one being called to make the next move. Catherine and Esther both had to find the courage to stand up against abuse and to ask others for help. What will it take for you to take that next step to set things right?

Women of the Bible… like me: Hagar (Grace)
Who are you if you have no other identity than “slave” and are only regarded for your usefulness? In this episode Grace identifies with Hagar as one who was “seen” by God, and in being seen, she realizes she has value and worth.

Women of the Bible… like me: Rahab (Jennifer)
Only being known as “the prostitute,” Jen can relate to Rahab. It felt like a life sentence. But whom God chooses to rescue His people—even an entire bloodline—will cause us to stand in awe and wonder of His goodness.
